Review for Literacy Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA, USA
I discovered GPLC shortly after I retired from 37 years as a Spanish teacher in June of 2005. I saw an ad in a local newspaper for volunteer training and, by answering the ad, I opened a whole new opportunity in my life. I have taught six different students from a variety of countries: Belgium, Lebanon, China, South Korea, Colombia. Through my work with these students, I have become even more culturally sensitive than I was in the past. Each student has provided a means of growth on my part and lasting friendships have been formed. I have found my Area Co-ordinator to be very helpful and willing to provide opportunities for tutors to get together and to share ideas and thoughts on what is happening. GPLC provides such wonderful services that enrich the lives of the students as well as the tutors. I cannot say enough to support this marvelous organization.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
the fact that I have learned so much about my students, about their countries, and about their cultures. I have also been able to effectively use the teaching skills that I practiced for 37 years. It has been very fulfilling.
