Review for Pa Boxers, Lancaster, PA, USA
I adopted a Shih Tzu from PA Boxer on Saturday, 10/8/2016. I am writing this on 10/18/2016. The dog was described as timid. This was an understatement, but I was willing to give the dog a home. The dog was described as 2 years old and surrendered by the family. My vet estimates the dog at a minimum of 4 years old. If surrendered by the family, why did they not know the dog's name? The name Molly was given her by one of the children in the foster family. Additionally, the rabies certificate states an age of 3 weeks on 9/26/2016 Really?.
The day of adoption I was promised the vaccination certificate would be sent and it was not sent until I made repeated requests for the certificate and the rabies tag. I just received a PDF copy of the certificate by email today. I am still waiting for the rabies tag.
The dog was loaded with fleas when my wife and I picked her up. When we got her home, we took her straight to the bathtub and gave her a flea bath. Good thing!!! We then washed everything the dog had come into contact on the Sanitary cycle.
I have contacted the vet directly to get the straight information and they are sending me a rabies certificate, tag, and receipt for services as I am suspicious of whether they performed all of the vaccinations and flea & tick treatments they claim on a data sheet they provided about Molly on one of their forms. They provided no documentation from the vet.
I am not saying all adoption experiences with PA Boxers Rescue will be handled in this fashion, but I am saying be skeptical and careful. Know good questions to ask before you adopt, and ask them. Find a respected reputable adoption organization.
