Bonnie came to me during one of the darkest times in my life. Having just lost both parents (I'm an only child) & my beloved cat Gabby (whom I'd had for 10 years) in late 2014 & early 2015, I was beyond devastated. I started going over to the Adopt A Cat shelter because it lifted my sadness & grief to be around the kitties. I kept saying it's just too soon for me to adopt just yet. I went to one of AAC's adoption Saturday @ Pet Supplies Plus and a very kind volunteer Becky, listened intently to my sad story of loss in such a short time. I sat in the middle of the floor to see if any cats would come up to greet me. Becky opened a cage that had this quirky, polydactal (extra toes on her paws) tabby that had been eyeballing me the whole time. As I did this Becky told me the story of Bonnie. She had been part of a horrific hoarding situation. She was one of 10 cats locked up in a storage unit, starved and dehydrated. Bonnie's weight was 3.1 lbs when she was rescued. She was only one of two survivors. Her brother Clyde made it out of the storage unit but could not fully recover and passed away 6 months later. Adopt A Cat had received Bonnie and brought her back to health. She was being fostered by Becky at the time and Becky wanted to make sure Bonnie got a good home. As I sat in the middle of the floor Bonnie came out of her cage and came right over to me. She was ready to play!! I was overwhelmed by Bonnie's spirit, her energy and her will to keep going. She was exactly the right cat to teach me how to go on in the face of great loss. She rescued me!
I am so impressed by the commitment and dedication of the volunteers @ Adopt A Cat. They care deeply for these cats and work hard to find them the best possible homes.
I occasionally volunteer there now myself as I am so grateful for the work they do. They also have a thrift store that helps support the shelter. This foundation deserves all good things as they have changed many lives. I'm just one small example. Thanks Adopt A Cat!
