I have been on the board of North Beach Citizens for the last two and half years. I chose to get more involved with the organization after seeing so many homeless people on my daily walks with my dog to Washington Square Park and around the neighborhood. What I like about them is that the money you donate goes directly to helping the people you see in and around the neighborhood. And it's not a one-size fits all approach -- they work with each person to figure out what that person needs to get off the street and rebuild their lives. For some, it could mean that they need help getting their birth certificate and I.D. to apply for VA benefits. For others, it may mean helping them re-connect with their family so that they can get help or getting them on the right medication so that they can think clearly. If you want to get involved locally to help solve San Francisco's homeless issues, this is worthy organization to support.
