The Heart of America Shakespeare Festival, in its 25 years, has become a necessary part of the Kansas City cultural arts scene. What began as a modest way to enjoy the works of Shakespeare in an outdoor theater environment has expanded over the years into an experience that educates new theater-goers, introduces diverse audiences to great works, instigates discussions about the play topics, and provides opportunities for children to expect this type of intelligent and exciting experience every summer (and even year-round). I cannot imagine this city without the Shakespeare Festival and all that it gives back to its citizens.
