Review for FIV Cat Rescue, Fort Bragg, CA, USA
I have taken care of an FIV cat for over 8 years. He was feral and lived most of his life on our outside porch and in our garden. He got along with our other animals and adored our dogs. I could tell over the years when he wasn't feeling well and I would bring him to the vet for an antibiotic shot . I researched how to take of him but there was very little information available.
He got stomatitis and stopped eating and was in obvious pain. He became an inside cat and I brought him to the vet who recommended his teeth be pulled, I was later told by another vet that that was not the recommended treatment and indeed it was not a cure because for another year his stomatitis would flare up every month or so and it was back and forth to the vet for an antibiotic and steroid shot . The sores were all the way down his throat and I believed he suffered with it.
I found my way to this group and it was the most knowledgable people I have spoken to about this disease. It was as if they knew my cat and gave me information that I believed increased the quality of his life. I wish I has known about them sooner. I work with rescues so this book will be a valuable resource to help dispel the myth that FIV cats cannot live long happy lives.
