Review for Pacific Crest Youth Arts Organization, Diamond Bar, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I was a member of the Pacific Crest (PC) Drum and Bugle Corps for six years until I was 21 (the group's maximum age). We members were held to high performance and citizenship standards. At our best, we became self-regulating; demanding more of ourselves and of each other anticipating the guidance and instruction from the professional staff. The staff's ability to empower youths in their development into adulthood (enhanced by the friendships that span age, school, and economic class) helps young performers grow into producers in their community. As a veteran of the Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps, it is difficult to think selfishly in my personal or professional life. My natural inclination is to think of community impact and how I can be a positive influence. I see this in the corps members who have followed. Coupled with my love of music, this is why I continue to support the PCYAO.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the faces of its current membership as they prepare to take the field in competition. Their zenlike focus is an enviable trait.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Start a feeder corps in Santa Barbara.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

putting my horn down at attention at the end of a show and watching thousands of fans roar in applause.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

exemplary members of society, from a diverse range of occupations and experiences. All with a shared love of youth arts.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Reduce its membership fees to a token commitment level and better serve low-income communities in greater need of arts education.

Ways to make it better...

A stronger alumni group had been established.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

DCI rules changes that could lead to reduced interest in the activity.

One thing I'd also say is that...

PLAY LOUD!

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
