Review for Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund, Little Rock, AR, USA

Rating: 5 stars

In 2000 some dedicated community members in three adjacent counties came together in their respective areas to form the Polk, Scott, and Montgomery Co. SPSF boards. Since that time each county has grown in commitment to the cause of increasing opportunities for their single parents through education. The groups moved from giving 4 scholarships each to nearly 40 a year now (between the 3 counties). What a joy to be a part of a selfless organization on the state level and local level too.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have seen single parents graduate, go to work to fulfill their dreams for themselves and to provide for their children, and develop leadership ability in the SPSF county affiliates.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Seek regional assistance from the state office for all counties.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Focus on assisting other help themselves

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

focused on the work to assist single parents

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

give more scholarships through matching funds, provide outreach staff to assist volunteer county organizations, and develop endowments

Ways to make it better...

I had more time to assist

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

continued funding and staffing

One thing I'd also say is that...

one cannot find an organization more committed to making like better for single parents and their children

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every month

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2010

Role:  Board Member & I assisted three counties to form individual county affiliates and now they stand on their own.
