Review for Maasai Girls Education Fund, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

MGEF maintains a thoughtful and personal relationship with each one of their students. They partner with the community, so that need can be identified directly by respected advocates for girls education within the Maasai tribe. This hands on approach ensures that each girl receives both the educational and social supports she needs to be successful.

I have been impressed with the agility and compassion in which MGEF has met the needs of their students during COVID-19. This is a small organization that is personally involved with all of their students allowing them to meet the girls and their families where they are and give them the support that they need to be successful in school. I could not be more proud to be a part of such an impactful organization!

We have been sponsoring girls through the Maasai Girls Education Fund since the year 2000. In that time we have watched a little girl start 1st grade and go on to graduate from Law School. We are now sponsoring a new generation of girls that are the same age as our daughters. We continue to be inspired by all MGEF does to positively impact the lives of girls and their communities.

MGEF is a powerful force not only in the lives of the girls that it benefits, but in their families and communities as well. The benefits of girls education are widely touted, but MGEF manages to educate the various members of the Maasai community as well as the people in these girls lives see the profund effect education has on them. Barbara Shaw run the organization with the help of a bright and creative board. Ms. Shaw is not only extremely organized and savvy in regards navigating MGEF thorough the corrupt waters of Kenya, she is also completely in love with these girls. Her level of dedication to their education and their developemnt into empowered young women is truly beautiful.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

While volunteering for MGEF in Kenya I had the opportunity to meet several girls who without the help of MGEF donors would have been married off at very young ages (9-13) or been left defenseless after their parents died of HIV.
