Review for Variety, the Children's Charity of Texas, Austin, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

We have been truely blessed twice by Variety the Childrens Charity of North Texas and don't know what we would have done without them. I am a stay at home mom with my son Grant who is a 3 year old with Cerebral Palsy and because of this he is unable to walk. We are one of those families that does have commercial insurance with my husbands company, but unfortunately a wheelchair was not affordable to us. About 8 months ago now Grant recieved a manual wheelchair, from Variety the Childrens Charity and now I actually have a toddler! Up until that point his only mode of transportation was either army crawling or me or my husband carrying him and positioning him in a sitting position. Now that he has his chair, Grant has become a normal 3 year old boy. His confidence level has gone through the roof. Before he would shy away and be terrified of me walking away from him, to now he goes up to strangers and starts talking to them! His wheelchair is his legs and its not only that its meant the world to him! He can go and experience so much more and do it independently! I have always stressed that he needs to be as independent as possible, and with his new chair, he is! Our second blessing came back in September 08, when he was given the coolest opportunity to throw the first pitch at a Texas Rangers Baseball game. All of this because of a really amazing charity that we truly could not have done without. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Variety the Childrens Charity!! The Ballard Family

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The amazing things they have done for my son.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Not change a thing.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Everything they have done for my family.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Absolutely amazing.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Make that many more families happy.

Ways to make it better...

Our experience could not have been any better.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Lots of families needing help.
