Review for Caribbean Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Livelihoods (CoESL), Bridgetown, , Barbados
I had the honor of participating in the APP Youth in Agriculture Business Forum, hosted in Grenada earlier this year.
I vividly recall a very interactive session on 'Starting a successful YIA Business, facilitated by Dr. Marcia Brandon, Managing Director, Caribbean Center of Excellence for Sustainable Livelihoods. I was really impressed with the wealth of information that she shared...
I must admit though, that the next thing that stood out to me, was the name of the organization.
'sustainable livelihoods' is focal area that is promoted at a levels of sustainable development, in our region, and many other places globally. I needed to know more. What does the CoESL do!? I soon found out. Which leads to the third thing that stood out:
CoESL through the leadership of Dr. Brandon, has a strong motto: 'Developing the Regions Entrepreneurial Resilient Citizens".
This is a great thing, which I found quite impressive and very inspiring. So following the session I did some research about the organization; objectives, targets, accomplishments and leadership. This is what I realized... which is the fourth thing:
CoESL is a champion in business mentoring and entrepreneurship knowledge transfer in the Caribbean. They have developed several learning programmes, partnered with other institutions, including NGO's to equip persons with successful business management skills, start-up and other necessary tools.
For a deeper understanding, I now invite you to follow the Caribbean Entrepreneurship Challenge 2016! where a group of semi-finalist are developing business plans with their mentors...
There is focus on leadership, skills training, access to finance and innovation among other areas of sustainable development. Lets wish them all the best throughout the next stage!
One things for sure, I would definitely like to see more of the CoESL in my country.
On another note, I feel very honored to learn about the CoESL's work in the region and be able to share this with others.
