Review for Voice Of the Bride Ministries, San Diego, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Volunteering for this ministry was a great experience! I loved being a part of what VOB does. When they told me they help the poor in Tijuana, Mexico, I was shocked. But when I realized that VOB was committed to serving people in Tijuana no matter what, I knew I had found a gem. Being a part of what VOB does has shown me so many things and helped me grow so much. I am at least a little bit more selfless and a little bit more wasteless. VOB basically takes what others don't want and turns it into gold. I'm talking about perfectly good food that would otherwise be thrown away for whatever silly reason someone came up with. It's tonto (that's spanish for silly/stupid). But seriously, we went to drug rehabs, AIDS clinics, churches, orphanages, shelter homes, and elderly homes. Everywhere we went they were so grateful for what we were doing. Many times they hugged us and thanked us. It was so heartwarming to see. My favorite part was going to the drug rehabs. I myself am a former drug addict so I really feel for these guys. My first time visiting one they showed me a locked room with a small opening in the door, almost like a cell, except larger. They told me the guys inside were detoxing and could not be let out. So I asked if I could go in and give them some pastries. They said sure. I got to sit down with these guys, eats some sweets, and share my story of how I got clean from drugs. They told me about their families and why they had decided to get clean. It was so encouraging for everyone and I'm thankful to VOB for doing this ministry full time to continue having encounters like this.

The photo is of me and a couple guys I met at a rehab center.
