I believe that many parents and students expect certain experiences through these volunteer programs overseas. However, One Heart Source exceeded those expectations and gifted me with one of the best two weeks of my college career. The Health Innovative program allowed me to closely interact with two of the brightest students in the local South African community, and opened my eyes to the hope that many unprivileged people have. It's an incredibly humbling experience to make a difference, even if it's in one person's life. One Heart Source is very organized and structured in a way that allows students to make the most out of the program. It provided all of us a family and long life friends from all around the country. While my parents did worry about the program and the security of the area we were volunteering, One Heart Source always was there to protect us and allow us to experience first hand what South Africa had to offer but still showing the help needed without sugar coating the negative things. You meet incredibly people through One Heart Source, and it's a loving environment to be surrounded by other volunteers and fellows that have the same mindset and goals as you do. Like they always say, "it takes a great person to come out to South Africa to do what you are doing."
