Review for Labrador Rescuers, San Diego, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

We tragically lost our 6 year old chocolate lab last Wednesday. In the spirit of life is 10% what happens to you and 90% your reaction, we decided that we needed to make something positive come out of such a terrible situation: to honor our beloved Brooke-Dog, we wanted to rescue another lab.

We looked online and starting making lists of available dogs that we thought would be a good fit for our family, and reached out to several rescue organizations including Lab Rescuers. There was something about Clara on the Lab Rescuers site that really stuck out to me - she seemed like she would be perfect for our family.

I submitted our application on Wednesday evening, was contacted by Michele on Thursday, and had a home visit appt set up for Friday afternoon. When I spoke to Michele on the phone, she understood the grief and emptiness we felt over losing our Brooke-Dog, and our need to do something positive in her honor. When she came to see our home and meet my family, she was very friendly, kind, encouraging, understanding - and she agreed that Clara would have a good home here. She gave me Clara's foster-mom's contact info so I could set up a meeting with her, but also assured me that if we met her and didn't feel connected there was no pressure - there were plenty of labs that needed homes.

I contacted Clara's foster mom, and scheduled a time to meet her on Sunday morning at her home. Her foster mom, Katie Smith, runs a lovely dog training program and boards dogs at her home. When I met with Katie, I saw that Clara was in great hands. She was caring, loving, and had really taken the time to get to know Clara. My kids and I fell in love with Clara immediately. We went home, talked it over as a family, and we all agreed adopting Clara was the right thing to do for our family. I went back up to Clara's foster home the same day and and picked her up. Her foster mom gave me a packet that included all of her information, shots, surgery and behavioral information so we had a head start at making Clara comfortable in our home and part of our family.

Overall, Lab Rescuers was a very professional, very well-run, caring, organization dedicated to giving good homes to dogs. We could not be more pleased with our experience, and more in love with our new dog Clara.
