I first learned of Feral Paws Rescue in January 2012 when I was looking for another cat to add to my small family of cats I had at the time. I contacted them and asked what kitties they had and Paula told me about a beautiful long-haired Calico she had just rescued from a high-kill shelter in Southern California. She brought the cat over to me and I immediately fell in love with Caleigh. We had a wonderful visit and I learned more about her rescue. As I am actually partial to black cats I asked if there were any who needed rescue after she told me how the black cats are the last ones to find homes and often killed at the shelter(s). From that point forward I essentially became a rescue "partner" with FPR to save as many black cats as I could from the shelter(s)! Paula also introduced me to the most wonderful veterinarian who takes care of all her rescues and he has treated many of the ones she has saved on my behalf. Paula and I have become close friends over these 4-1/2 years and I personally know how devoted she is to saving the cats from high-kill shelter(s), even if they are far from "perfect", meaning that they are deemed feral, sick, have a physical disability, injured, or whatever...cats who would not be adoptable and subject to being euthanized. She works tirelessly to save and take care of all the cats at the rescue. She has spent many nights holding a sick or injured cat, caring for families (mother and kittens), taking them to the veterinarian whenever they need care, and driving hundreds of miles back and forth to high-kill shelters to save as many cats as her truck would hold....and then some. I also spent many hours volunteering to work at the adoption center for this rescue, and know how particular Paula is about having everything sanitized and the cats in a clean environment. I have never met anyone who is so devoted to saving and caring for cats and if anyone deserves recognition it is Feral Paws Rescue.
