I have seen first hand what the damage mines can do and what it’s like living in an area where there may be mines. That’s why I started to support Apopo. I love the Herorat scheme. So clever, so cost effective, so efficient. My first rat has retired and I’m now supporting a second one.

I don’t quite remember when I started supporting the HeroRats but it was many years ago now. Later, I went to work in Tanzania and I arranged to visit their training site in Morogoro. Amazing animals and amazing people working with them.

The reason I am interested in them is from my visits to Cambodia, having seen the damage a mine can do to a person and having walked in areas with mine warning signs. I realised just how difficult it is for people living in those areas not to be able to cultivate that land and how tempting it must be to try. Now the HeroRats are making those areas safe. It’s fantastic work!

I've been sponsoring HeroRats for years. These rats have incredibly sensitive noses. They can sniff out TB more accurately than humans can detect it and they are faster and better in demining operations than either dogs or humans.

I went to their training base in Morogoro when I lived in Tanzania. The program is very thorough and well organised. The staff and the rats made a happy team.

They have been involved in so much good work these last few years! Fantastic organisation!
