Review for The Hummingbird Project, Cleveland, OH, USA
The Hummingbird Project embodies and extends the inspiring educational outreach work of its founders, Chris and Marilyn McHugh, by targeting several of the most daunting environmental and food security issues facing humanity, and responding with elegant, practical and (most importantly) effective solutions: rebuild the soil food web, save locally adapted seed varieties, and re-build locally resilient agricultural systems. As a sustainable agriculture program coordinator and instructor, I have enthusiastically drawn upon the generously shared knowledge of the Hummingbird project founders as a sterling example of how a small, conscientious, and well-organized effort can literally change the world! The project equips farmers in India and elsewhere with the means to reclaim their future, by offering a unique synthesis of scientific rigor (applying breakthrough interdisciplinary research regarding the soil health as viewed through a living systems perspective), and hands-on, transformative learning delivered by talented professionals who draw upon many years of cross-cultural experience to reach farmers literally on their home soil, where real change from the bottom up becomes possible!
