Review for Transition US, Sebastopol, CA, USA

Rating: 4 stars

I have been following the transition initiative for about 3 years, and find it the one shining hope amongst a sea of depression. Our problems are so great, and the time to engage so short, that having a constructive, community focused organization that channels our positive and creative energy toward solution, is like manna from heaven. I was so discouraged about our leaders lack of attention, inaction, you name it, that the possibility of joining with other concerned citizens, has reenergized me and given me something to work towards, and a hope that my daughter may have a chance to grow up healthy and with some modicrum of happy.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the enthusiasm and support for expanding the movement, gaining momentum and reaching for a tipping point of individual involvement and engagement

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

work towards increasing involvement of broader range of backgrounds

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the opportunity to share with others experiences and energy

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

engaged, enthusiastic, knowledgeable

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

focus on a large reskilling, relocalizing, distributed energy projects, so many opportunities to rebuild infrastructure and knowledge base that has been lost through carelessness and lack of value

Ways to make it better...

keep on working, its going

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

time, there isn't much time to penetrate our society to ensure that the right kinds of solutions (i.e., ones that don't compound the problem) are available to politicians when crisis strikes again.

One thing I'd also say is that...

we don't have any chance to do this again, we have got an extremely limited amount of time to rebuild our community structures, and this is the best thing I have seen, that gives hope and offers opportunities to individuals to rebuild communities

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2010

Role:  Volunteer & steering committee member, vancouver transition group.
