I spent 41 years reporting about education for NPR and PBS and during that time have reported on and spent time with lots of groups whose goal it is to help able kids, and with plenty of those young people as well. TEAK and TEAK students absolutely stand out, TEAK for its long-term commitment to each and every student; the kids for their desire to grow, achieve and give back. It's clearly tough to get into TEAK, but, once students are accepted, TEAK staff and volunteers do everything possible to enable those young people to succeed. And TEAK never seems to forget families, making sure that they know how critical they are, empowering them, inviting them on the journey. All in all, TEAK is a treasure.
