OHS has changed my life. It is an understatement. I will never be able to express my gratitude and love for this organization in words. The staff is so helpful, so loving, so passionate, so driven, and has created an environment where their volunteers are challenged, encouraged, loved, accepted, and embraced in every capacity. Instead of working as an outside spectator with the Imizamo Yethu township, they work side by side with the children, family, and community leaders. Not only are the volunteers able to work in the mentorship program, but are challenged to be a part of Cape Town's unique history. We went on several immersions in the past four weeks that challenged anything i've ever read in a text book about South Africa. We were given several opportunities to engage in respectful dialogue pertaining to race, religion, culture, diversity, etc. Every penny donated to my experience in Cape Town did not go to waste. If you are reading and are questioning whether you should volunteer or not, take a leap of faith and trust in the journey. You will not regret it!
