Review for Ocean River Institute Inc, Cambridge, MA, USA
ORI was instrumental at helping to organize fund-raising, international petitions and strategies in raising awarenenss about a crucial development in the BVI which would jeopardize a fisheries protected area. The case eventually went to court and we won. couldn't have done it without the tireless efforts of ORI, who continues to raise awareness in protecting the territory. The staff was sensitive and observant, guiding where needed and let others shine, a rare skill. ORI is approachable, sharp, well-connected and experienced. I will work with them again in a moment's notice.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
sparking local people to protect their own environment and to watch how ORI handles inquiries and ideas in a positive manner. ORI is greatly respected in the BVI.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
what I learn.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the breath of knowledge and experience as well as political savy the director brings to every meeting. He never leaves a stone unturned while maintaining humor and inclusiveness.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
very smart, dedicated, broad-thinking, educated, fun and willing.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
it probably would help organize other smaller groups into a larger network while educating along the way. It would set up a user-friendly framework encouraging inclusion and action. It could expand their radio/ web program about the environs.
Ways to make it better...
we had more time.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
as usual, financial. It does a great job sounding like thousands, when it is a dedicated few. I would say publicity. Their broadcasting and issues are enlightening and important today.
One thing I'd also say is that...
ORI fills a niche which helps smaller non-profits fullfill their goals with wisdom and guidance, great energy and ideas. They need to expand for the hundreds of other issues assaulting the world. They would definitely be an asset.
