Review for Nuclear Information & Resource Service, Takoma Park, MD, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Nuclear issues, including energy, mining, waste and weapons, are very important to me. I constantly use the NIRS website and action alerts to stay involved and knowledgeable about the complex environmental, social and economic impacts of nuclear energy - nationally and globally. NIRS provides an invaluable resource to those who are committed to pushing for energy policies that protect the environment. The staff and publications of NIRS provide information that lay people can understand, yet is based on sound scientific research and peer review. NIRS helps advocates for alternative energy sources stay efficiently engaged.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Helping defeat the proposed Yucca Mountain and Skull Valley nuclear waste storage facilities and raise public awareness around the deadly danger of nuclear waste production and transportation.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The staff are knowledgeable and deeply committed to engaging the public in these efforts. They add scientific and passionate depth to any publication or presentation.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Friendly, helpful and committed to finding alternatives to nuclear energy.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Help shift the policy away from subsidizing new nuclear energy production to finding alternative energy sources and creating sound scientific means of dealing with the looming nuclear waste problem and cleaning up the environmental catastrophe.

Ways to make it better...

NIRS had more staff to work with regional organizations around the country and in providing public officials with scientific information and resources to make sound decisions regarding nuclear issues.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Lack of funding and public knowledge of the important issues that NIRS tackle.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I am proud to be a supporter of NIRS and am grateful for their efforts to provide me and other environmental activists with the tools we need to push for change.
