When our 8 year old son, Zachary, was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in August 2015, we connected with Carol Basso through a recommendation from a friend and from the hospital. Connecting with Carol and David Basso and the 1 Million 4 Anna Foundation has changed our lives forever. A cancer diagnosis for a child is the worst nightmare any parent can imagine, but the love, support, and guidance we received from the foundation throughout the 9 months of treatment were incredible and truly made us feel as though "we are not alone". Zachary was named the "1M4A VIP" for this year, which made him feel extra special. The fact that this foundation is 100% volunteer based was very important to us as we were requesting donations to be made by our family and friends and felt confident that the money was being used responsibly. The focus on the research and the fact that the foundation funded a project this year at UT Southwestern to support 5 researchers focusing on this specific disease and collaborating together as they research from different angles is something we are so proud of and will continue supporting. We pray our child never relapses and unfortunately we know other children/young adults that have and therefore there needs to be better/less toxic treatment and options. The focus on the college scholarships and supporting these young adults that have battled or are actively battling this disease is incredible. Because of 1M4A, we have a new extended family with members of that family right here in Dallas and across the country. We all are there for each other and know each others pain and fears. It is a special gift and we are thankful for the foundation in providing this to our family, and most importantly, to our son, Zachary.

Review for A Shelter for Cancer Families (ASCF), Houston, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Our 8 year old son was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in his distal femur in August 2015. We live in Dallas but needed to go to Houston to save his leg. He had limb salvage surgery in December 2015. The Amschwand Foundation not only provided housing to our family during the week of surgery, but since the surgery was on the first day of Hanukkah, the foundation reached out to friends in Houston and people from the community helped decorate the apartment for Hanukkah, provided a traditional Hanukkah meal, stocked the kitchen for the week, and provided Hanukkah gifts for both of our children for the 8 nights of Hanukkah as well as gifts for my husband and me. We are so thankful and feel so blessed that we connected with this amazing foundation that is so focused on helping families with Sarcoma and helping fund research. Thank you Missy!
