Review for Pearl S. Buck International, Inc., Perkasie, PA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I came to Pearl S. Buck house for a tour. A PSB volunteer then suggested I attend a writing workshop. That inspired me to join the Writers Guild that meets once a month. I went through orientation and became a volunteer, assisting in the Archives due to my interest in books and ephemera. Not long after a need for a person with graphics experience led to my formatting a book for publishing on Amazon's CreateSpace. Some 12 books later, our Writing Center Press is flourishing with memoirs, short stories, a poetry collection and a novel under our belts. During my time at PSBI the focus has changed from adoptions to furthering the legacy Pearl Buck through multi-cultural enrichment, training for better workplace communication, and creating forums that bring together people from all over the world. PSBI continues its outreach in several Asian countries to support schools and students' families as they further their education. The men and women who lead tours of Pearl's historic house, maintain exhibits highlighting her contributions to literature and social action around the world, lead workshops for writers, teach yearly high-school leadership classes, staff the superb gift shop and the annual craft show, put in uncounted hours supporting the legacy are all full of love and dedication to this remarkable woman's talent and contributions to mankind.

As a volunteer at the Pearl S. Buck Writing Center at her historic home at Green Hills Farm, I am constantly amazed at the rich literary tradition that is nurtured here with the Writers Guild, the Writing Workshops, our Memoir classes and next year's lineup of writing and how-to-market classes for aspiring authors and poets. Carrying on the "Writing in a Writer's House" motto, our volunteer staff strives to offer a caring and collaborative place to inspire those who wish to share their work with others.

Wonderful mission and truly dedicated volunteers inspired me to join their cause. I help in the archives, present workshops for budding authors at the Writing Center and help edit stories and books for publishing on CreateSpace. Their Writers Guild is a great group the helps poets, novelists, essays and those writing memoirs to improve their skills while "writing in a writer's house" here at Green Hills Farm, the home of Pearl S. Buck. Volunteers give tours and run a world-class gift shop as well. PBSI supports schools and sponsorships of individual children in 6 foreign countries in Southeast Asia. Giving opportunities to those who, through no fault of their own, are ostracized by their culture due to mixed race parentage. The PSBI charity rated is one of the highest, due to the large team of volunteers.
