I heard about Island Dolphin Care years ago while working at a non-profit development center for infants and toddlers with disabilities in Seattle, so when the opportunity to help at IDC as an intern during their therapy programs came up, I was thrilled. It was an amazing experience for me, which started a wonderful relationship with them and many clients. They have an amazing, gifted staff, and awesome volunteers. Families from all over the world benefit from their program, many on scholarships. Animal assisted therapy can make a huge difference in those with challenging lives, and one of the great things about this program, as compared to other programs I have experienced, is the way they include the whole family, not just the child or adult with challenges. The dolphins are loved, and appear to love their work as much as families love interacting with them and the therapists. This is not simply feel good fluff, this is serious, valuable therapy that has improved many lives.
