I've worked with Save the Whales in two capacities: as a Service Learning instructor at CSU-Monterey Bay who sends my students to work their volunteer hours with StW, and as chair of the Surfrider Foundation Monterey Chapter, a fellow environmental non-profit organization, who has partnered with StW for various local programs and initiatives. In both capacities I've been genuinely impressed by the commitment and tenacity of Maris, the E.D. and her staff, for doing good work in the community. They don't just do education and outreach, which is so critical and important, they go to Home Depot and label which garden products are safer for the environment, they attach signs to storm drains so people don't dispose of anything in them- they do real 'boots on the ground' work that makes a difference in our community. It's been a privilege and a pleasure to be able to partner with them and to send my students to work them, and be enriched by everything the learn from Save the Whales
