Review for Life Unlimited of Virginia Inc, Rapidan, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

For me, Rikki's Refuge is a lesson in faith, hope and pragmatism. Rikki's is Eden on a very tight budget, with even a place for serpents if they need a home. With enormous dedication, creativity, and hard work, both regulars and volunteers accomplish seeming miracles of good care for over 1200 diverse animals as common as cats and as exotic as emus. At Rikki's, there's no doubt that every much-needed and much-appreciated donation goes straight to the animals' care.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

hundreds of healthy, relaxed, natural-acting, well-fed, well-housed animals, and in people, especially children, enjoying themselves while engaging in acts of kindness.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

try to be exactly like Kerry Hilliard, the founder and current director.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

seeing such a huge benefit to so many animals that would have suffered or died without Rikki's.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

hard-working, dedicated, knowledgeable, kind, friendly, creative, innovative, inspiring.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

do what it's currently doing, but on a larger scale.

Ways to make it better...

more animals were being adopted and fewer were coming in.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

money, money, and money.

One thing I'd also say is that...

if the world were run like Rikki's, it would be a much-improved place. But as a start, every one who can should visit Rikki's for inspiration and for proof that what is best in humans can not only survive, but prevail.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2010

Role:  Donor & Donate money; make Rikki's a beneficiary; occasionally volunteer.
