Review for Professional Animal Retirement Center, Albion, IN, USA

Rating: 5 stars

PARC, also known as Black Pine Animal Park to those who know it best is an amazing facility filled with dedicated staff and volunteers. I had the wonderful priviledge of volunteering there for several years while I lived in Fort Wayne, IN. Everyone I encountered was truly devoted to ensuring these animals received the best care possible, despite significant budgetary constraints, and at the time, extremely limited space.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The number of animals who have been rescued and saved from some deplorable living conditions. The staff and volunteers, who are fully commited to this facility and these anmials, and have a deep-seated belief in what they do every day.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Continue the hard work exhibited by those who currently manage this organization every day. They do everything in their power to promote this facility, raise money and public awareness, and provide exceptional care for the animals.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The knowledge I gained from the staff, and the satisfaction of knowing that I had the opportunity to at least make a small difference in these animals lives. I got so much more than I gave from this experience.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Warm, loving, dedicated, determined.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Save so many more lives and improve the public awareness of why exotic animals are not intended to be pets.

Ways to make it better...

...if only I had MORE TIME there. I moved out of state after being there for two seasons and I miss it dearly.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Budgetary constraints, lack of public awareness, never enough volunteers (though they have many), never enough hours in the day.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Get involved. Take your family. This is a million times better than any zoo you will ever visit. Volunteer, donate time, money, resources. If you love animals, take the time to learn about this facility and offer assistance if you can.,

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009

Role:  Volunteer & Helped keep animal areas clean, learned to prepare meals for the animals, gave guided tours to visitors, helped maintain the facility, learned to provide enrichment to the animals.
