Pearl S Buck International has so unexpectedly enlarged my life. As a recent retiree, I was interested in taking one of their writing seminars- yes; writing at a writer’s house is one of the many programs available. However, I was lured by the history and stories around the house and large family who called it home, and quickly became a docent. Wanting to know more, I soon volunteered to assist the curator in projects, and joined a book club reading Pearl Buck’s books. Before I knew it I was sponsoring a child in the Philippines, hosting students from China, and attending a seminar on cross-cultural understanding. Today, I cannot read a news story without thinking about Pearl Buck’s worldview and wondering how she would have responded. A visit to the house becomes an inspiration. Come visit and be moved!!
