Review for Wilderness Land Trust, Bainbridge Is, WA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The Wilderness Land Trust is a key organization in fulfilling the vision held by the many individuals who conceived and brought about the Wilderness Act that defines wilderness as "...an area where the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man..." Private lands within wilderness can often become developed in ways that undermine and degrade the surrounding established wilderness. An excellent example of such a disaster can be found in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness of Southern Oregon where a developer using a private parcel for gold mining scheme - see http://www.oregonwild.org/about/press-room/press-clips/developer-lays-claim-to-more-than-gold-in-oregon-wilderness. The Wilderness Land Trust expertise and non-adversarial approach can do much to prevent the above type of tragedies for American Wilderness. The Wilderness Land trust has protected over 30,000 acres in the western United States, acquiring and transferring these lands to the federal government as part of existing wilderness. Recent transfers include parcels in the Mt Shasta, Trinity Alps, and Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel wildernesses. I urge folks to support the Wilderness Land Trust so they can continue protecting a uniquely American treasure.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

protect irreplaceable natural areas that are contained within the borders of established of proposed U.S. Wilderness areas. This would be an investment that will pay back present and future generations manyfold.
