Review for Society of St. Andrew, Big Island, VA, USA
This 30-year-old non-sectarian national hunger relief agency distributes fresh produce and a wide variety of other healthy foods to a wide variety of frugal community agencies nationwide.
It recruits volunteers to glean quality produce directly at farms and orchards, as well as food donations from a variety of food vendors, thereby salvaging much food that otherwise would be wasted!
It has grown steadily over 30 years in the quantity and quality of donated food distributed and the number of volunteers of all ages.
It also has programs educating teens and all ages in causes of and solutions to hunger in America and worldwide.
Its overhead costs are under 8% - excellent in comparison to many other worthy charities!
I have personally supported its healthy food gathering and distribution throughout its 30-plus years, and have been continually blessed by being a blessing to so many of the hungry in this way!
