What an innovative and wonderful organization. APOPO trains African pouched rats (HeroRats) to carry out demining organizations around the world. They recently put themselves out of a job in Mozambique, which was just declared mine-free! They also use these amazing rats' keen sense of smell to sniff out tuberculosis in lab samples, allowing for much quicker and more accurate diagnosis that can save lives. APOPO engages very actively with their donors, allowing donors to "adopt" a HeroRat and follow his/her adventures via a regular newsletter. APOPO is also very active on social media. I highly recommend this charity.
