Review for California State Parks Foundation, San Francisco, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

We have raised a family in CA and the first real environmental education experiences are those taught at the beaches and mountain parks that are CA! Our family not only experienced the beauty and serenity of nature, but with the park system we discovered CA history, a love for the vast diversity of CA and have always had it affordable, well maintained and at our fingertips. We need to keep the State Parks affordable, well maintained and at our fingertips - for all CA and our visitors too. There is no better gift to ourselves and our children than preserving and appreciating our great state. The CA State Parks Foundation makes sure we are always working toward that end.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

every visit to all CA state parks. We were in Ana Nuevo in Feb. and the experience was awesome. We frequently visit Van Damme and McKerricher. Living close to Mt. Diablo makes it our backyard. Daily we experience the State Park Foundation work!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

be hard pressed to make any changes.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

It never ends. The opportunities are endless and they even send me an email to keep me updated on what is available, on-going and how things are going. Talk about transparent gov. We are all a part of this, and it makes a difference.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

awesome. They never ask too much, but make opportunities available and challenging. We are a part of the parks and that makes us stewards and owners. I like that!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

bring the facilities up to pristine condition and continue to offer all that the public expects of its treasures - the parks. I already know it would expand its services to the public. The promises are not empty - we are stewards together.

Ways to make it better...

more volunteers would volunteer more time, treasure or talents. It isn't just an Earth Day event. Every time we spend time in a state park we work to make it better. We use the state parks a lot - because they are our best asset and affordable.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

funding. Isn't that what it is always about? Money! However, with words well spoken by our own John Muir, we take care of what we know and love. With hard work we can make money and we can also find ways to work beyond it.

One thing I'd also say is that...

the State Park Foundation is one of hope as well. We know what we have and we are working to keep it not only alive for now but forever in the future. If that is not hope and trust, I don't know what is.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every six months

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2010

Role:  Volunteer & not only have we used the state parks, but we are PG&E Earth Day volunteers annually at different parks each year. I have made bat houses, weeded cactus gardens, pulled invasive plants; you name it I will do it or try to.
