I first met George Steiner, president of Orphans Tree, in 2000, and since then my wife and I have been involved in numerous short term mission trips working with orphans in Russia with George's help. I just joined the board of Orphans Tree one year ago because I believe strongly in its emphasis upon helping older orphans. As they leave Russian orphanages, usually at age 16, these young people are even more vulnerable and needy than younger orphans. The life skills, safe haven, spiritual nurture, and friendship Orphans Tree staff provide these older orphans is invaluable, and it is how best to incarnate the gospel--helping one needy young person at a time.
