Apopo are an evidence-based, fully researched and evaluated programme that are proven to work. Whether it's TB testing or demining, the trained rats and their handlers are saving lives. This charity has already had an amazing impact in Mozambique and continues to carry out its excellent work in countries affected by mines (e.g. Cambodia). The ability to screen for TB faster and more effectively is a health innovation that could transform the lives of millions worldwide. There are many ventures within health and development who are worthy of support, but in my opinion Apopo ranks among the best. They evaluate, assess and reflect on their work, their outcomes are well documented and they strive for respectful and sustainable practices that restore communities to the people and better health to those who are sick.
