Review for Yellow Ribbon Fund Inc, Bethesda, MD, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have been volunteering with the Yellow Ribbon Fund for over four years and truly believe I have received more from the experience than I have given. Because I was a military mom, I felt drawn to Walter Reed with the hope that I could help, through the many programs offered by Yellow Ribbon, in some small way to make things a little easier for our wounded warriors. During that time I have worked directly with the wounded soldiers themselves as well as with the family members who spend so much time caring for their loved ones. This has included such basic things as getting them away from Walter Reed for brief respites to teaching them how to ride our metro to getting family members to their own doctors' appointments or out to get groceries. Through the generosity of a local business, All Fired Up, we have been able to establish an ongoing crafts project, initially designed to provide a diversion to family members but which has grown over the past three years to include many of the soldiers themselves, which has so far put on 24 ceramics workshops at Walter Reed. The strength of these soldiers and their families is an inspiration and a humbling experience. It has been an honor to be part of the many ways that Yellow Ribbon has touched the lives of these heroes.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

witnessing their willingness to immediately respond to the various needs of the military families they serve. I was especially aware of this as they responded to the needs of soldiers from my son's unit who came to WRAMC from Iraq.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Seeing first hand the difference an initially small group of people can make on the lives of others.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Top rate and dedicated.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

continue to positively impact the lives of many people who are living through the worst nightmares of their lives. We have found that the littlest thing can have tremendous power.
