I can truly say that One Heart Source is probably one of the best things that has ever happened to me. When I decided to volunteer with OHS, I did not know what I was getting into. My main reason for volunteering with OHS was to see for myself what life is truly like in Africa. As an African American female I wanted to gain a better understanding of where my ancestors came from. What I left with was that plus more.
Volunteering with OHS helped me break down barriers and peel back layers of myself so that I could better understand who I was and am as a person. The leadership and staff are phenomenal. They are extremely supportive and make it their priority to make sure everyone feels comfortable and safe.
OHS make its their duty to not only treat their volunteers with respect, but the students we teach as well. They live by the golden rule: Treat others the way you would like to be treated. I love that we taught our students the meaning of respect and the power of uplifting one another; nothing but positivity.
I feel extremely privileged and honored to have been able to be a part of such a positive and uplifting organization. Volunteering with OHS has helped me grow into a better me and confirm my love of not only teaching, but serving others.
