I first got to know Salesian Missions as a volunteer working for a Salesian school in South America (2 years). After returning home, I worked in corporate America for a couple years before realizing that my heart was being called to work in the missions again. There was one place that I felt I could go to, and that was with the Salesians.

I have now worked for the Salesians for 13 years and have had the opportunity to visit sites in some 20 countries. I continue to be amazed at the vast amount of work/ministry the Salesians do and how effective it is. Salesians truly live out their motto of "not just caring for the impoverished, but teaching them to care for themselves." And it is truly inspiring to see that in action. If it were practical, I would suggest every person go and visit a mission site to see it for themselves, but not everyone can do that. I would not work at a place where I did not fully believe in the mission - and I support and would suggest to anyone to support the work of Salesian Missions!

I worked with the Salesians as a Lay Missioner for 2 years in a rural town in Bolivia. While there, I was able to see all the different projects that the Salesians - both priests and sisters - were involved with, which was pretty amazing. It was an honor to be associated with such a great organization that educated and worked with youth on the fringes of society.
