Review for Pend Oreille Players Association, Newport, WA, USA
Pend Oreille Players works very hard to be a multi generational theater for this small community. Forming the Pend Oreille Players In Training "POPIT" group has increased the youth participation and filled the void caused by our local schools dropping drama and chorus classes. The last youth production "Willie Wonka Junior" was fantastic! My granddaughter made many friends and had a great time at last summers music theater camp. Two weeks of camp for $50.00 was amazing!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
the growth of the youth programs and the interaction with other non-profits. Also with how my grand daughter who has social skills problems was able to connect with her peers. This years opening night of Annie will be a benefit for our local CASA group.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
focus on the impact to the community and try to find more ways to connect.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the friendships made and the connection with the students. A lot of them keep in touch and come back whenever they can after they leave for college.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
varied, these are artists, actors, singers, musicians, parents supporting their children. Some who would don't want a spotlight but need to be a part of something. There are a lot of people that can't donate, but give from the heart.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
reach out more. A lot of people are not able to get involved just for the lack of gas money. It could create jobs and training, increase scholarships and help build thriving communities. Something about theater builds confidence to keep moving forward.
Ways to make it better...
I could only find a way to get more financial support for this group. I see the need but have donated pretty much to my limit.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
of course the financial end as with all non-profit groups. Opening this theater during a recession was maybe not the best timing. The biggest challenge is making everyone feel welcome and important to the organization.
One thing I'd also say is that...
I feel community theater can be a vital part of any town. I have met so many people I never would have met. I have become aware of the needs of other non-profits here that I didn't know existed and took a class on protecting kids in youth groups.
