Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, located in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the Novant Health Cancer Prevention and Early Detection (CPED) program have partnered with the National Breast Cancer Foundation for the past seven years to meet the growing needs of Mecklenburg and 12 neighboring counties. Mecklenburg County has the highest rates of late-stage breast cancer diagnosis in North Carolina. By offering comprehensive breast health education and screening awareness to all women regardless of socioeconomic status, CPED addresses the significant healthcare needs of uninsured/underserved patients in the region. National Breast Cancer Foundation funding provides women ages 40-49 years with screening mammograms, diagnostic procedures ad critical education from highly qualified breast cancer health staff. This partnership facilitates program growth and enhanced collaboration with community groups, churches and local free clinics, providing uninsured/underserved women access to breast health services at local Novant Health Breast Imaging centers and Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center's mammography mobile coach.

Patients presenting with an abnormal finding are enrolled in the navigation program and receive diagnostic services and/or referrals to the Novant Health Cancer Care High-Risk Clinic. A safety net of care is provided for these women, from screening through diagnosis navigation and survivorship. National Breast Cancer Foundation's continued support is making a difference in the lives of uninsured/underserved women, especially those with more aggressive breast cancers who may not receive education or lifesaving early breast cancer screening without financial assistance. Novant Health CPED program staff is deeply grateful for this valuable and productive partnership.
