Review for National Capital Crime Assitance Network, Mancos, CO, USA

Rating: 5 stars

This is a nonprofit founded and run by one woman, Claudia Whitman. She commits a great amount of her time to working for the exoneration of innocent prisoners. She takes no salary for herself, and works out of her own home, so any donations go directly to helping the unjustly imprisoned.

Estimates say that it is possible that up to 10% of the prison population nationwide is innocent, and DNA exonerations are growing all the time. These people have fallen between the cracks and have no one to help them. Many say that until they wrote to NCCAN, they were able to receive no assistance at all. NCCAN provides support to prisoners and their families, and does what it takes to get these people back into court, where they have a chance to fight for their freedom. These activities can be mundane, such as correspondence, or dramatic, such as running a crowdfunding drive to retain a lawyer for an individual.
