Review for Mylestone Equine Rescue a New Jersey Non-Profit Corporation, Phillipsburg, NJ, USA
I have been volunteering at Mylestone for about 20 years and enjoy working with the rescue horses. Many of the horses have been neglected and abused. It usually takes some time for them to trust humans again but many do. Many come in looking like skeletons and are timid around humans. Here they are brought back slowly to learn that they will be fed regularly along with regular farrier care, dental care and vet care. These horses hit the lottery when they are taken in by Mylestone. The people running this rescue work as hard as any individuals I have ever met.

I started volunteering at MER after I retired. I didn't grow up around horses but the Thompson's were very patient and very willing to teach a novice. I have now been volunteering for over 15 years. It is extremely rewarding to watch a new rescue horse thrive after being treated so poorly before they were rescued.

I have been volunteering at Mylestone for approximately 14 years and enjoy being around the horses. When I retired I was looking for volunteer work. I went to an Open House and thought I would give it a try. I still go once a week to muck stalls, turn horses out, feed hay, among other tasks. It is a great place to volunteer and watching the horses trust people again.
We are always looking for new volunteers so you can call SusanKelly and sign up.

I have been volunteering at Mylestone for around 13 years and love working around the horses. Watching abused horses come in fearful of humans is hard but when you see the horses start to trust it is an amazing feeling. Some of the horses take much longer than others but it is completely understandable with their backgrounds. I had no experience with horses before I started volunteering and with the help of dedication people who run the organization it is a wonderful experience of learning. No matter how long you are there, you learn something every time you are there.

I started as a volunteer in 2007, eventually becoming a member of the Board of Directors of Mylestone. I grew up in Brooklyn and didn't have any interaction with horses but always had a love for animals. I started by helping to feed the horses on Sunday evenings. I was retired so I started volunteering on Wednesdays to muck stalls, turn out and help with feeding the horses. I enjoy working with the horses and still learn something new regularly. The dedicated work of Susankelly, Bruce and Austin Thompson is invaluable. They work 24/7 to be sure the horses are kept healthy and happy. This is an awesome rescue and they truly have dedicated their lives to these lucky horses.

Mylestone is a wonderful horse rescue that has been helping horses for the past 25 years. The horses are given the love, food and shelter that they lacked in their past. Many have trust issues and it sometimes it takes a while for them to come around but they always do. It is heartwarming to watch an intelligent horse look at you and see trust instead of fear. The Founder and her husband work tirelessly whether volunteers show up or not. Their dedication to the horses is unmatched.

I have been volunteering for over 10 years and I still get such joy in seeing the horses on a regular basis. Many of the horses have been neglected and/or abused before MER took them in. Each one has their own story and we try to treat each one as an individual so they can leave the past behind and start their new life where people care and love them. We are always looking for volunteers to help on the farm or work at events to raise money. I would encourage anyone who has a love of animals to go to the website and fill out the volunteer form.

I have been volunteering at Mylestone Equine Rescue (MER) for over 10 years. The horses that are lucky enough to come to MER are shown that they can trust people again. Many of the horses come us broken spiritually and physically. They can again learn that there are good people in their world that show them love, compassion, excellent health care, food and don't ask anything of them except to be happy horses. All the volunteers have their "favorites" but every horse is treated like they are the only horse in the world. I love the work that the Thompson family started and I am grateful to be a part of Mylestone.

I have been volunteering at Mylestone Equine Rescue since 2007. I am now on the Board of Directors. I muck stalls, help with mailings, work events and brush/groom the horses. Many of the horses have had horrific pasts and we work to help them to forget the past and enjoy the present with plenty of food, care and relationships with people where they know they will not be hurt. This rescue is made up of volunteers that really care about mending these horses physically and mentally. It hurts to see horses come to the rescue broken but it is extremely rewarding to see them become trusting horses again. I can't say enough about the caring people that run this rescue.

I have been volunteering at Mylestone for over 7 years. I retired early and was looking to work with animals. I went to MER's Open House and thought I would apply as a volunteer. I never worked around horses before and didn't think I could be much help, but the Thompson's were more than willing to teach me to muck stalls, lead horses and work fundraising events. I have learned much about the running of the rescue and the time and dedication of the volunteers and the Thompson family. I work closely with them as a Board member now and find that watching horses come in neglected and broken and watch them blossom into happy horses again is the most rewarding part of my experience there. So even if you don't have horse experience, there is plenty that you can do to help the rescue horses. Please contact us to volunteer. We need volunteers to help with everything that needs to be done around the farm. Come to our Open House October 11th from noon-4:00pm and see for yourself.
