Review for Educate Tanzania, Saint Paul, MN, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Four decades ago I went to college with Jan, the incredible woman who started this nonprofit. She has inspired so many people throughout her career, but the last seven years when she has devoted her life to this nonprofit has been incredible. She met the people in Tanzania through her career, but the seed that was planted in her heart to help offer them a better life compelled her to give up her career and work full time on this non'profit. Who does that??? Jan!

I have supported this nonprofit from the beginning, but every year I have become more and more involved. I am a high school teacher and last year I asked Jan to come speak to a group of Service-related students at my school. They unanimously chose Educate Tanzania as the nonprofit they wanted to support for the school year 2016-17. They had decided previously that they wanted to do a project that was health related. Jan not only works toward the building and opening of a University in Tanzania, but also the health and welfare of the community. She was aware there was a need for first aid kits, so my school put together 80 gallon size first aid kits to be delivered to the women of the community. The pictures below show the group of students and teachers the day we assembled the kits and the next picture is a couple months later when the kits were delivered to the women in Tanzania. This project was a wonderful project for my students - they actually got to see pictures of the people they helped. It meant so much to them.

I will be attending the opening of Karuco University near Kawagwe, Tanzania October 29th of this year. It has been an amazing journey being a part of a dream that is so big and so life changing. Educate Tanzania is making MANY dreams come true for a very colorful, beautiful group of people who did not have any possibilities of going to college and working to improve their agriculture and way of life. Now they do!

I am so proud to be a volunteer for Educate Tanzania. I am a math teacher in northern Minnesota so I am well aware of the effect a good education has on the lives of young people. We are so privileged to have this opportunity to help the youth of Tanzania have higher education in their own back yard. I love to hear the stories of the people in these communities who long for more education opportunities and then hear the progress of this university which will be opening October, 2016. To be a part of ETI is an amazing feeling!
