My Nonprofit Reviews

honored-to-support
Review for Starfish Foundation Inc, Milwaukee, WI, USA
I have staffed the Vets Journey Home weekend every time there is one in Texas with one exception. I have seen the healing of soldiers (men and women that is miraculous)as they deal with the wounds of war that cannot be seen, but affect their lives deeply. This weekend helps them to get back into the life they left behind to go to combat. They are all heroes and deserve our support in every way. I wish this weekend was available all over the country as there are thousands veterans and their families who do not get this opportunity in any other way.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
my own healing. I am a widow of a Viet Nam era veteran and had some things to work on in my own life. The work on the weekend allowed me to get clarity about my own wounds and experience healing I could not imagine.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
make it available to many more veterans and expand it to include their families. All members of a veterans family suffer the wounds of war.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
witnessing the work and the honor of being a part of the Vets Journey Home staff has changed my life. I've met wonderful people and made some new friendships
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
open, willing, honoring of the veterans, compassionate, loving and supportive.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
change the world, one veteran at a time. There would be no more PTSD cases that are not addressed and no more homelsees Vets who cannot function in society because of their was experience
Ways to make it better...
There is no way to make it better. I believe this is the most powerful experience a veteran can have as they deal with the effects of combat. comraderie is also valuable as they tell their stories and know they are not alone.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Lack of funds to spread the workshop to more parts of the country. The need is great.
One thing I'd also say is that...
It has been an honor to support those who sacrifice their own lives, and to give back something to them.
