Review for Iron County Care and Share, Cedar City, UT, USA

Rating: 5 stars

As a member of the Board of Directors and past Chairman of Iron County Care and Share-Utah, I have been touched by the dedication and compassion of our staff. Sometimes a staff member has been, at one time, a homeless person or someone involved with drugs. Because of the focused interest of case workers, the day-to-day sucesses lead to recovery. The "family" atmosphere at ICCS develops confidence and trust. To see men homeless for 20 years or more, being housed in permanent housing, beginning to contribute to society, wanting to help others and looking people in the eye when talking to them, has humbled me. I can more clearly see that ALL people are God's children.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

forward thinking. Building a new food bank and going from a 1-car garage to a 5,200 square foot building. Beginning the process to build a new shelter. With the community, ICCS is preparing to have a community clinic and a mental health facility on ICCS's 4 acrea.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I have run this organization. Each new executive brings different strengths. I would like to find a way to fund non-profits without having to be constantly asking for money. Some kind a line-item in a state budget

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I realizing that not all homeless are criminals; and that not all criminal are homeless

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Staff is not degreed, but they have great empathy, not "you poor people" attitudes. They just work hard, helping

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

It could finish building the shelter and the SRO housing we need. Add low income housing, not just for homeless, but the low income people in general. Many of our homeless have income. They just can't pay the rent that is adked

Ways to make it better...

My experience could not have been better

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

More long term employees and funding shortages

One thing I'd also say is that...

Getting to know people who have made bad choices and are struggling to improve has softened by heart. What courage they have

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2008

Role:  Board Member & I oversaw the building of our new food bank, sealed floors, worked with staff, and became friends with them.
