Review for Assistance League of Kansas City, Gladstone, MO, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Almost fourteen years ago, I was introduced to Assistance League of Kansas City by an individual that I met by chance. She spoke of the Operation School Bell Program and how the organization was run by an all volunteer group of members. I am so glad I joined her for that first meeting. The passion and dedication of the members of Assistance League inspired me to become involved. Whether it is working at THE ReSALE SHOP (where the majority of the funding of our 9 programs comes from) or doing the committee work that is necessary to keep our programs alive and functioning, I have found such satisfaction in becoming involved. I have had the opportunity to serve as a member of the Board of this wonderful organization and know firsthand the heart and dedication of its members.

I have been a member of this wonderful organization for seven years. A couple of weeks ago I had an interesting conversation with my neighbor. Her three year old grandson was having a minor surgery and he received one of our cuddly Operation Hug bears from the hospital. She commented to me that he has slept with it daily and that she felt it was such a comforting item to receive at a time that was rather traumatic. Thanks Assistance League for once again bringing comfort to a child (and grandparent)!

As a volunteer member of this incredible organization, I can't say enough about the dedication and commitment of the ladies who give so abundantly of their time. I was fortunate to give a talk to a local homeowner's association group and one of the attendees was a local police officer. When I shared the information regarding our Assault Survivor Kits Program, he was quick to speak up and share that he had personally heard from volunteers of MOCSA how helpful our kits are to individuals who have been in domestic abuse situations. We could not provide our services without the generosity of our donors, financial supporters and those that shop at our thrift store, THE ReSALE SHOP. We truly believe in our vision statement, "Together...making our community better".

I am a grandmother of two children that attend school in Platte City. Both girls received the I'm In Charge booklet distributed by Assistance League of Kansas City. What a great tool to help assist children who need to be home alone. My second grade granddaughter was so excited to share her booklet with her mom and I as soon as she got off the bus, "Look, this book shows kids like us how to take care of ourselves if we are home alone or see a stranger. It's really great to know what to do". Thank you Assistance League of Kansas City for developing such a helpful, informative booklet for school age children.
