Review for A Forever-Home Rescue Foundation, Inc., Chantilly, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

In 2009, we adopted an 8 month old Rottie pup named Heidi from AFH. Her parents and 2 litter mates were found in the backyard of a foreclosed home when the pups were 6 months old. They were very malnourished and the poor mama had sheet rock and patio furniture in her stomach. AFH paid the surgery for the mom and nursed the pups back to health. I’m proud to say we have a very healthy 11 year old rottie, that’s outside the average life span for the breed! Thank you AFH for saving the best dog we’ve ever had!

We first got involved with AFH through a friend who was a foster. We adopted our first dog from them in 2009, and she is the most perfect dog in the universe! A few years ago I became a volunteer and periodic foster. Rather, a foster failure, I adopted my last foster! I conduct home visits for them and am alway very impressed with the amount of work the primary 4 people do. There’s lots of moving parts! But they have a good system and manage to get it all done. It’s a labor of love for them, I wish everyone realized that we’re all volunteers doing the best we can to save dogs and put them in appropriate, good homes.

I first learned of AFH when I adopted our wonderful Rottie, Heidi, from AFH. I went to several foster homes as well as to the adoption events to look at dogs before Heidi picked us. I was impressed with the devotion and love each foster family had for their wards. The process is very streamlined without missing crucial steps (application, interview, home checks etc) and soon Heidi was ours.

I then became a volunteer for AFH, and I frequent the adoption events to get my puppy snuggling time fix! The leaders of AFH are always there and they are tireless in their dedication. I also see some of the same foster parents there week after week with their new wards, again, tireless devotion and love for each pup. The events and fundraisers are very well run and enjoyable as well.

I love this organization and just wish that I could do more but working full time, I do what I can. I get my first foster in May, all the way from Thailand! I just hope he does not adopt me :-)
