Review for Central Ohio Sheltie Rescue Inc, Columbus, OH, USA
Hard for me to understand how on earth this so-called non-profit rescue is still in business and has not lost their NP status. Beyond their refusal to exercise redemption on dogs for which there is a known owner, that they would actually post a $10,000. bond and spend NP dollars to fight the legitimate owner of a dog that they confiscated. That is irresponsible and antithetical to how non-profits should act. If they have the money to hire lawyers and maintain a year long fight not to return a dog, they really ought to have their non-profit status pulled - permanently.
From a dog rescue perspective, there are few criteria that rescues are rated upon. One of the most important is REDEMPTION of animals to their known owner. Second is their FIDUCIARY responsibility is spending non-profit dollars wisely - another epic fail. Third is putting the best interests of the animals first. An obvious fail. 4th and 5th is around maintaining and demonstrating that they maintain the care of animals, and ensuring, by submitting to periodic inspection, that they keep rescued animals in adequate facilities and provide them with the human interaction and socialization needed to thrive. Having hidden Piper for coming up on one year, and not allowed a single official to ensure the well-being and facilities that this dog is being kept in, demonstrates that not only should COSR not have NP status, they should not be permitted contact with animals as their care does not meet the minimum standard of being humane.
