Before learning about Random Acts, I donated money to charities and felt like I was doing my part to give back. What I didn't realize is that, while donations of money are helpful, donating time to personally help those in need is even more valuable. Spending time making food and serving it at soup kitchens, visiting nursing homes and holding parties for the residents, didn't only help those I was serving, it helped me. I could have just given money to these organizations, but I would have never understood what helping others really means to them. I would have missed the smiles and hugs. I learned that those who needed assistance actually assisted me in become a happier and more generous person. Random Acts spreads kindness. It is infectious and it is something that I hope infects the planet.
