Review for Nurturing Minds Inc, Newtonville, MA, USA
I came to learn first hand about the organization from my good friend who has been involved since inception. I felt connected to their mission: “To educate Tanzanian girls who are poor, marginalized and at-risk of becoming involved in exploitative forms of child labor.” I signed up to volunteer with the Northeast Chapter and to help to coordinate a part of the sponsorship program. Five years later, I am even more connected and impressed with the organization, its leadership/board, growth and how much of a direct impact Nurturing Minds has on the lives of these girls. We have biographies of each student and I feel like I know many of them personally. I also know many people who have visited the school and they come back with stories of the students and are 100% ready to get more involved upon their return. This says a lot about the organization and the day-to-day administration of the school itself. There is a lot in it for me, including meeting great people, learning a lot about another culture, having fun but most importantly, I do it because it is making a difference in the lives of these students.
